The WSU Current Conditions Index was on a predominantly upward trend for the eight months ending in September. There was just a slight dip in August of less than 0.1 percent. From August to September there was a small increase in the Index of 0.3 percent. Driving that increase was a 1 percent drop in the unemployment rate for the metro area. Outbound airport activity at Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport also contributed positively to the Index value. The volume of outbound airfreight shipments increased 5 percent, while the number of outbound passengers increased 1.4 percent. All indicators are seasonally adjusted.
