After three months of up and down movement, the WSU Leading Economic Indicators Index increased 0.7 percent in September. Four of the nine Index indicators showed improvement from August to September. The inflation-adjusted value of new national orders for aircraft and parts had the largest monthly percentage increase of all the indicators, rising approximately four-fold over August’s number. In addition, the national Index of Consumer Confidence increased nine Index points over that same time period. The indicators with the largest decline were the inflation-adjusted value of residential and nonresidential building permits.
