From third to fourth quarter 2010, the WSU Leading Economic Indicators Index increased 3.1 percent. It increased 3.8 percent from fourth quarter 2009. As a predictor of the future, the leading index suggests better days for the local economy. From fourth quarter 2009 to fourth quarter 2010, the number of Kansas initial unemployment claims dropped 31.7 percent, and the real price of wheat increased 37.2 percent.
