The WSU Current Conditions Index increased 0.5 percent from July to August, and 1 percent from August 2012 to August 2013. The current increase in economic activity can be attributed to the improvement of all four components of the index. Total nonfarm employment has improved slightly between July and August, and the unemployment rate has decreased. There has also been an increase in the hours and earnings of production employees in the Wichita area.
