The WSU Current Conditions Index declined slightly from July to August, a mere 0.1 percent decrease. The downturn is primarily due to a 6.8 percent decrease in the number of outbound passengers at Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport and a 1.8 percentage point decline in the hotel occupancy rate. However, some components of the Index did improve. There was a 0.6 percentage point decline in the unemployment rate, a 4.9 percent increase in home sales and a 10.9 percent increase in the volume of outbound airfreight shipments at Wichita’s airport. All indicators are seasonally adjusted.
