From second to third quarter, the WSU Current Conditions Index increased only 0.3 percent. From third quarter 2010 to third quarter 2011, the Index declined 0.1 percent. The Index indicator showing the most consistent downturn was the seasonally adjusted volume of airfreight at Wichita’s Mid-Continent airport, with a 2.7 percent decline from second to third quarter and a 6.9 percent decline from third quarter 2010. Seasonally adjusted nonfarm wage and salary employment has shown modest gains, with a 0.1 percent increase from second to third quarter and a 0.8 percent increase from third quarter 2010.
